4 simple steps to help maintain natural stone around your pool for summer

Natural stone is one of the most popular flooring surfaces we install around a swimming pool. Not only is it visually appealing, but easy and low-key to maintain all year round.

Ideally, when choosing the right stone to install around the pool you need something dense and hard-wearing that will be able to sustain water, sun and a lot of use. Generally, granites and bluestones are recommended, however some sandstones and limestones can also be suitable.

Ideally, you want to ensure that your stone is sealed and kept clean to help maintain the natural stone year upon year. We use natural stone sealers from Dry Treat and Aquamix. Once applied following their manufacturers guidelines these sealers are guaranteed to last up to 15 years.

However, we do recommend 4 small-steps to use as a guideline to help maintain the longevity of the natural stone.

1.     Hosing the pool area after use

2.     Keeping the pool water level around 10cm below the pool’s coping to avoid constant submersion or constant saturating and drying.

3.     Removing debris that could stain the stone.

4.     Using a pH Neutral cleaner for regular cleaning and maintenance of the stone. Avoid using strong alkali products and acids as they may compromise the sealing agents and damage the stone.
